Christian Doidge hasn’t had the easiest of starts to life at Dagenham & Redbridge but the Welshman feels settled at Victoria Road and is sure he will be scoring goals again soon.

The 22-year-old spoke exclusively to the Post and revealed his frustration at picking up an injury straight after transferring to the club.

But after starting the last two matches for Daggers against Leyton Orient and Accrington Stanley, the former Carmarthen Town forward is pleased to finally be returning to full fitness.

“It is a completely new life and I have had to adjust quickly,” said Doidge, who was working for South Wales Police before signing in August.

“I have moved down now and live with a couple of the boys. It has made me settle in quickly.

“I have had an extremely slow start and it has been frustrating but hopefully I am over my injury now.

“I had a really good pre-season. I was flying and scoring loads of goals but when you get injured you are six weeks behind.

“But I have been working hard to get fit again and I just need to be patient and wait for more chances.”

Manager Wayne Burnett has handed Doidge starting opportunities in Daggers last two fixtures.

The 22-year-old played the full game against the O’s in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy recently before playing the first half against Accrington last weekend.

Doidge was honest about his performances in both game but is determined and confident he will eventually show his true ability.

“I didn’t do enough (against Leyton Orient or Accrington). I am a lot better than that and it is pretty frustrating,” he admitted.

“But there was positives from the games and I have taken them on board. I had a look at the videos.

“There is a lot I can work on but I did a lot of good things as well and hopefully I can work on them too.”

He revealed he wasn’t expecting to start last weekend and also admitted it was nice to test himself against a team from the league above.

Now Doidge is waiting for his next chance but he is sure everything will click for him soon.

“It was absolutely amazing to play against Leyton Orient, obviously they are a league above and they showed their quality,” said the forward.

“But it is good to see how far away you are from their quality but I know I need games before I can really compare myself to them.

“I was quite surprised to be starting against Accrington too but really happy.

“I just need to get minutes under my belt. It is a completely new standard for me, a couple of leagues higher. I have just got to be patient and wait for my opportunity and I am sure it will click.”
