Dagenham & Redbridge striker insists team can finally break their Victoria Road duck against Northampton

Christian Doidge insists morale couldn’t be higher as Dagenham & Redbridge look to finally pick up their first home win of the season this weekend.

Daggers return to Victoria Road for the first time in 2016 with Northampton Town the visitors on Saturday.

The east Londoners do not have the best of records against the Cobblers, having only won once in 11 meetings, but that was at Sixfields in September.

But Doidge is confident that having begun the new year with two good displays, Daggers can finally get a home victory.

“Everyone is buzzing, before the Everton game we had won two from two in the league,” said the Welsh striker.

“Everyone is really happy and we thought the FA Cup match was a game without pressure and one where we could give it our all.

“We go again at home to Northampton on Saturday and hopefully we can do the double over them.”

Doidge has enjoyed his best run in the starting XI in recent weeks, having begun the past three games for Daggers.

The 23-year-old has also been in good form too, netting at Stevenage before drawing praise from new boss John Still for his display at Exeter.

Doidge also had praise for Still, but noted that the rest of the coaching staff should also take credit for the team’s recent upturn in form.

“John is very organised, but a lot of the work on the training ground has been done by Darren or Warren,” he said.

“It’s mainly John’s leadership though, as he’s a great man manager.

“A lot of it also goes down to Wayne Burnett, he did a lot of work with us and we haven’t changed that much.

“Wayne did a hell of a lot for a lot for us and he brought everyone to this club.

“John has been absolutely brilliant since he came in, so we have to keep going.”

Doidge has flourished up top with Ashley Chambers in recent weeks and it has proved to be a fruitful pairing.

And the former Carmarthen Town striker believes their success in attack owes a lot to their friendship off the pitch.

“It’s brilliant to see my name on the team sheet and play with Ashley, who I know so well,” said Doidge.

“Ashley is a really clever player, so when I play with him I seem to always get the ball in the right areas. Hopefully that continues and we go again on Saturday.”
