If results go their way, Chesterfield’s promotion from League Two could be confirmed tomorrow at Victoria Road, but Daggers’ Medy Elito is hoping to make them wait that little bit longer.

Elito’s penalty at Torquay United on Good Friday sealed a first win in three games for Wayne Burnett’s side to leave them in 11th spot with three matches remaining

Going into tomorrow’s game the Daggers have a good record against the top seven, losing just three of 13 – two of those came against Fleetwood Town, and the other at York City.

Elito and his Daggers team-mates will be hoping to extend that record, and make Paul Cook’s Johnstone’s Paint Trophy finalists wait to seal their promotion from League Two.

“No-one wants to end the season on a downer,” said Elito. “It would be nice to end it with a few positive results and that’s what we want to do.

“The next game is against Chesterfield and after this win at Torquay the boys are up for it and hopefully we can get three points at home.

“At the moment we have been playing the teams that are struggling and in the relegation zone itself. It’s sometimes harder playing the teams down the bottom to the top at this season, but we are confident we can pick up all three points against Chesterfield on Monday.”

Burnett’s side drew 1-1 at the Proact Stadium in December, after the hosts had Sam Hird sent off in the first half.

That resulted in a penalty, but Zavon Hines missed the spot kick and Marc Richards went on to put the hosts in front from a penalty of their own.

However, the Daggers did level with skipper Abu Ogogo notching a 25-yard effort just before the hour mark.

They had chances to go on and win the game, and though they didn’t do that in the reverse fixture, Elito is hoping for better luck this time.

“At Chesterfield earlier in the season we came back with a draw and on that day we had other chances and we could have won but we’ll see how it is Monday,” he added.

The Easter period represents two games in a four-day period right as the season reaches its climax and boss Wayne Burnett made changes at Torquay United looking for a reaction.

This time he may make alterations because of the quick turnaround, but whatever side is put out, Elito feels confident they can finish the season on a high.

“The gaffer said to us he needed to make a few changes to get a reaction out of us because he wasn’t happy with the Portsmouth result and he has said he’ll change it again because we have got two games in four days,” remarked Elito

“Some of the boys have played 45 games and some haven’t but sometimes it’s both a physical and mental issue playing games in such a short space of time, but I know with the players we have got we can get through it.

“We can finish the season on a high and get nine points on the board.

“All the players are working hard and they’ll continue to do so until the season is out. It’s coming to the end of the season, but we all want to end it well.”
