Twenty-year-old defender Matthew Partridge has linked up with Dagenham & Redbridge on a one-year deal after being released from Championship side Reading.

During his time with the Royals, Partridge failed to make a first-team appearance, but spent time out on loan in non-league with both Skrill South side Basingstoke Town and Ryman Premier outfit Bognor Regis Town.

His time at Basingstoke was successful, featuring on 15 occasions and scoring four times, including after just nine minutes of his debut in a 3-2 defeat to Bromley, a game where current Dagger Bradley Goldberg also scored.

He also found the net in their next game, a 3-1 FA Cup second qualifying round defeat to Weston-super-Mare, before further strikes later in the loan spell against Dover Athletic on November 2 and at Boreham Wood on February 3.

He has featured heavily for Reading’s under-21s though and becomes the third player in recent times to join the Daggers, after striker Dominic Samuel and midfielder Lawson D’Ath spent time on loan last season. Gozie Ugwu, another former Royal, is currently on trial at Victoria Road as well.

Partridge becomes Wayne Burnett’s fifth summer signing after he completed deals for goalkeepers Liam O’Brien and Mark Cousins, defender Damian Batt and midfielder Frankie Raymond.

Burnett has built from the back during the off-season and now his main targets are clearly the forward department, with only an injured Rhys Murphy, Academy graduate Jon Nouble and Bradley Goldberg currently at the club.

“I’ve been after a midfielder and a defender and once they are complete we’ll then move on to the strikers and wing men,” said the Daggers boss.
