Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett was frustrated his side failed to press on from their 1-0 advantage against Morecambe on Saturday, and they paid the ultimate price with Mark Hughes’ 89th minute equaliser.

The hosts dominated the opening period in terms of chances and failed to turn that into a lead.

Medy Elito’s 52nd minute penalty, somewhat harshly given according to Burnett for Chris McCready’s handling of a Luke Norris shot, did put them in front.

But after that, the Daggers boss felt his side lacked the intensity to put Morecambe to the sword.

“We conceded very late and that is disappointing but we are a bit fortunate to get the penalty,” said Burnett.

“If it had been given against my team I would have felt a little hard done by but we’ve managed to convert it and go 1-0 up.

“We didn’t exert any real pressure after that and when it is 1-0 the opposition always have a chance of getting back into the game.

“In the first half I thought we created a number of chances where we would threaten their goal but maybe we lacked a little bit of quality and knowhow at times.”

That draw extend their winless run at home to seven games and Burnett cannot fathom why it’s not quite going the Daggers way at Victoria Road.

“It’s not for the want of trying, he added. “We are having a go and working no differently than we are away but we have to be better at home, It’s all right saying we shouldn’t have conceded but we have got to threaten their goal a little bit more. We did at times but not as much as I’d have liked.”
