Glyn Hopkin has resigned as director of Dagenham & Redbridge FC 2017 Ltd.

A meeting was held last night and was attended by David Bennett, David Simpson and Stephen Thompson in their capacity as Directors of D&RFC 2017 Ltd to discuss the situation.

David Simpson having been elected by the Members of Dagenham & Redbridge FC Ltd.

Also in attendance were members of the full members committee; David Baisden, Alan Dingle, Colin Everett and Mark Odams.

The meeting had been pre-arranged but the main topic for discussion was the events surrounding the purchase of 74% of Dagenham & Redbridge 2017 Ltd by a consortium headed by Glyn Hopkin.

The takeover of the Football Club by D&RC 2017 Ltd was finally completed at the beginning of January this year.

However, Mr Hopkin had already advised the other members of his consortium, that despite having already paid £1,000,000 for his shares that once the takeover had been completed, he would resign as a director of the company remaining as a minority shareholder.

He also advised that he would no longer fund any further shortfall in the running of the xompany and it was agreed by the four members of the consortium to try and find a new buyer for the club as soon as possible.

Glyn’s reason for his resignation was the disunity within the supporters and in particular the vicious campaign over several months to have the MD dismissed.

The campaign around the flags which eventually resulted in the fake e-mail being hand delivered to him and the lack of support by the supporters club committee when dealing with this he found very upsetting and not something he wished to continue to be associated with.

A consultant has already been engaged to market the club, both domestically and overseas, and even at this early stage some interest has been shown and the club is hopeful that following this public announcement other parties may also show interest.

Whilst £1.3 million was raised by the initial allocation of shares this has not been sufficient to cover the losses incurred last season and so far this season and whilst Glyn Hopkin has funded this overspend this funding ceased on the 31st December 2017.

This has obviously caused some problems and adjustments in our playing squad which have already taken place with some further player releases almost certain to occur over the coming weeks.

However whilst the club has undoubtedly some serious problems and very quickly requires a new purchaser it does not have large amounts of debt.

The members in attendance last night were shown evidence of our current creditors and debtors and agree with this view.

The board of directors will continue, with the support of the full members, to strive over the coming weeks to ensure the survival of our great football club.

However one of our problems has been the number of supporters attending matches and it is now that we urge all our supporters to rally round.

This can be first achieved by attending our next home tie which is the Vanarama National League fixture against Aldershot Town on Saturday, February 10 and perhaps bring a friend or two.

Remember this is a live BT Game with a 5.30 pm ko but please don’t watch it at home we need you through the turnstiles.
