Daggers assistant boss Warren Hackett has hinted Jack Connors and Matt Partridge could retain their place in the starting team against Bury this weekend.

The duo returned to the starting eleven against Southend United last weekend and helped Wayne Burnett’s side keep a clean sheet – their first since November.

Partridge came back into the team for the first time since the 2-0 defeat to Southport on November 18, whilst Connors made his first appearance since featuring against Newport County on October 18.

And Hackett was impressed with their performances against the Seasiders, he said: “Everyone that played against Southend has played before and they all know the job.

“Jack Connors come in, and Matty Partridge come in, and they have done themselves proud.

“Two games in three days is a lot. You have the likes of Billy Bingham and Scott Doe who could do both matches, but some can’t, and I thought the ones that come in against Southend were fantastic.

“If people come in and take their opportunity, like they Jack and Matt both did, who is to say they won’t play the next game. That is how it should be – play well, stay in the team and don’t lose your place.”

Connors has found chances limited with Nathan Green first filling in at left-back before Joe Widdowson and Ashley Hemmings played as wing-backs.

However, Burnett returned to a flat back-four against Southend and the Republic of Ireland under-21 star could be set for an extended run in the team now.

Hackett revealed they are desperate to be able to pick a consistent team and hopes they can build on their last result.

“I would like to think we have found a balanced team now,” he said after the Roots Hall stalemate.

“We are begging players to be consistent and stay in the team week in, week out. But where performances have been a little bit indifferent it has been difficult.

“But certainly against Southend there were seven, eight or even nine players that were on the button.

“I don’t want to get too carried away. We take one game at a time, but there are certainly some positives things to come out of the Southend match.”
