Ashley Hemmings has praised the impact Dagenham & Redbridge team mate Joe Widdowson has had on his game.

Widdowson moved to Victoria Road on loan from Bury back in November before signing a permanent deal until the end of the season in January.

The left-back has started the last nine games for Wayne Burnett’s side with Hemmings in front of him and the pair have developed a good understanding.

Hemmings has scored three times since Widdowson returned to the team against Cambridge United on January 27 and the 24-year-old believes the former West Ham United youngster is aiding his game.

“Joe and I work on our partnership all the time, every day,” said Hemmings.

“We have got a strong partnership and as soon as he gets the ball he tells me if he can give it to me or if he can’t.

“That is helping me out and giving me confidence because I am getting on the ball more and he has been a real help for me.

“He communicates a lot from the back so he is a great help and it is good to have Joe at left-back.”

Hemmings recent form has enabled him to score more goals this season than he has done in any previous campaign.

His performances over the past few months have been exceptional and he is enjoying being further up the pitch now.

The former Burton Albion ace did feature at left-back during November and December, but has been restored back to left midfield.

“It is definitely easier being further up the pitch and attacking. That is where I like playing,” Hemmings said.

“I have got six goals now and a couple more assists than I had last season and that is what I want to bring to the team.

“Every game I want to try and get a goal or an assist and of course the win.”
