Alex Jakubiak finally got his first start for Dagenham & Redbridge last weekend during the 1-0 defeat to Northampton Town, but he admits he is only focused on getting minutes to aid his development.

The 18-year-old moved to Victoria Road on an initial one-month loan at the end of November, but that has since been extended until January 31.

He has made six appearances under Wayne Burnett, scoring on his debut against Bury, but only earned his first start against the Cobblers on Saturday.

And though the attacker admitted himself he didn’t make the most of the opportunity, he is happy to be learning at Daggers.

“The main thing for me is minutes, obviously I would prefer to be starting,” admitted Jakubiak.

“But I just want to get as many minutes as I can during my time here.

“I settled in quite quickly and I knew quite a few of the lads from before, Ayo Obileye was one of them.

“He has given me lifts and that, but everyone has made me feel welcome and I feel I am part of the team properly.”

Daggers are without a match this weekend due to Cambridge United’s involvement in the FA Cup, but they travel to Abbey Stadium next Tuesday for an important league fixture.

Jakubiak believes the short break of 10 days could be a positive as they look to get back on track against the U’s.

He also discussed what it has been like to be training in parks regularly over the past few weeks with Daggers training ground affected by the poor weather.

“When you lose you just want to get back out there again and bounce back as quickly as you can,” Jakubiak added.

“But this little break might help in a way because we can get our heads back together and start working again.

“I think everyone has done well to adapt to the conditions. The training ground is not in the best quality, the pitch isn’t the best.

“No one is complaining about training in parks, though, and we have all got on with it.

“When someone slips we just laugh about it, but considering the quality of the pitches at this time of season everyone has done well to work with it.”
