Watford forward is impressing for Dagenham & Redbridge in League Two
Alex Jakubiak paid credit to Burton Albion after they came from behind at Victoria Road to consign Dagenham & Redbridge to a 3-1 defeat on Saturday.
The 18-year-old, on loan from Watford, put Wayne Burnett’s side ahead with a smart finish in the 67th minute.
But Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink’s team responded brilliantly and Jakubiak praised the Brewers for sticking to their philosophy.
“Burton are a great side,” he said. “They were a lot more organised and you could see they had a structured formation and game plan.
“Even though we went ahead they still stuck to what they were doing and in the end they came out on top.
“You can see why they are top of the league and if they keep playing like that there is no reason why they won’t go up.”
Jakubiak was impressed with Burton, but felt Daggers missed an opportunity to defeat them.
He believes they need to look at how they react to taking the lead against strong opposition.
“I didn’t think there was that much in it,” added Jakubiak.
“The first hour there wasn’t much in the game and you wouldn’t say any team deserved to take the lead.
“But we did and I thought from there, for five minutes, we should have held out, but Burton came straight from the kick-off in another gear and we didn’t manage that well.
“We conceded two goals in four minutes. That’s something we need to work on – reacting to going ahead.
“You say you need to react when you concede, but it is the same if you go ahead.”
Burton attacked immediately after Jakubiak’s goal and in the end it was no surprise they left with the three points.
Jakubiak’s performance was a positive for the hosts, though, and he was happy with his goal, his third since joining in November, and admitted he has been told he needs to shoot more by various people.
“I am here to play as much as I can and get goals with it and I am happy to get another one,” he added.
“Everyone is saying I need to shoot more, even the players, and even if it is far out they are saying I have the space to do it.
“I have been doing it more in training – trying more shots in finishing training and having shots from a little bit further out – and I am getting used to hitting the target more.”
Jakubiak took his goal well against Burton and if he can try his luck more he will surely end up with more goals to his tally before his loan finishes at the end of the season.
