Forward revealed Ayo Obileye has helped him settle

Alex Jakubiak could not have asked for a better start to life as a Dagenham & Redbridge player, and the forward is now hoping to impress enough to earn an extension to his loan spell at Victoria Road.

The 18-year-old scored 10 minutes into his debut at Gigg Lane on November 29 to inspire Wayne Burnett’s side to a 2-0 success against Bury.

The Watford youngster had only joined the club two days before that match and is set to return to the Championship club on December 29.

But Jakubiak is looking to extend his deal already and is hopeful he will score even more goals with the Daggers.

“The most important thing is just to be playing games and to get minutes,” he said.

“The whole objective for me during this loan is to get as many minutes under my belt as possible and hopefully the goals will come with it.

“I would like to start as soon as I can, but I will keep pushing in training and trying to impress the manager.

“From now until December 29 I want to get as many games as I can and if that leads to an extension I will be more than happy to stay until whenever.”

Jakubiak’s settling in period at Daggers was definitely helped by his 55th-minute goal against the Shakers, after he entered the fray at half time.

He admits scoring that first goal at a new club took a weight of pressure off his shoulders.

“I was just happy I got the chance to play,” added Jakubiak.

“I didn’t expect to come on at half time. The manager said I would get minutes, but I got more than I expected. It was my first real touch as well so it was a good start for me.

“For any striker the most important thing is scoring and the first goal is more important than any other.

“To get the first one out the way takes a lot of pressure off. To get it as early as I did is good for me and helped me settle in a little bit more.”

Another loan star at the club has also helped the forward adjust to life at Victoria Road.

Ayo Obileye, on loan from Charlton Athletic, has helped Jakubiak feel at home.

He added: “I didn’t know anybody at the club, but I knew Ayo from Charlton through one of my other friends there.

“I have been close with him and he has met me at the station and given me lifts to training, so that has made it a lot easier.

“Even though it is still early everyone else has welcomed me well and I feel very comfortable already at the club.”
