Daggers’ penalty taker Medy Elito again proved to be the matchwinner on Friday in their 1-0 victory at Torquay United.

The attacking midfielder made it eight goals for the season when scoring from the spot having been brought down in the box by Dale Tonge, after Ade Azeez’s neat flick on.

That made it three from three from the spot for the 23-year-old in the current campaign, and the former Colchester United man admitted his confidence is at an all-time high.

“I am always confident when it comes to penalties,” he said.

“I don’t think too much when I get the ball and put it down. I know where I am going to go from the start and luckily it went in.”

Elito had an instinct that they foul may be coming from Tonge, and he praised team-mate Azeez for his part in winning the spot kick.

“It was a nice flick on from Ade, that’s what he’s in the team for and I managed to get on the end of this one,” he added.

“I saw the ball bouncing and I thought if I get there first and he touches me it would be a penalty and that’s what happened.”

Daggers had to ride the storm in the opening period, as the Gulls came at them from the off, and had the better chance to take the lead.

However, the former England under-19 international felt they were always going to have to soak up pressure bearing in mind Torquay’s need for three points.

“It was a tough game. Teams at the bottom of the table are battling for their lives and they will have wanted to do the best they can, especially in front of a home crowd,” he remarked.

“I think they did that today and they put us under pressure first half. But we overcame that and came out on top.”

“We needed that ourselves though. We didn’t play the best against Portsmouth and the gaffer said we can come here and win.

“It was always going to be tough but at the end of the day we came here and won and that is the main thing.”
