Muldoon happy to fight for Daggers midfield place

On-loan Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder praise quality of team mates in position

Oliver Muldoon believes the competition for places in midfield for Dagenham & Redbridge will help the club avoid the drop from League Two.

The on-loan Charlton Athletic player has completed every minute of every match since joining Daggers last month, playing as part of a midfield three alongside skipper Joss Labadie and Trinidad & Tobago international Andre Boucaud.

Also available as options in the middle of the park are Luke Guttridge, who has racked up over 400 league appearances, and Frankie Raymond, who averages a goal every three league games for Daggers.

With competent players ready to step in should someone’s levels drop, Muldoon is fully aware there is always pressure to do well for Dagenham in order to keep his starting berth.

“They’re all very good players, the competition is there,” he said. “It’s nice because it means you can’t slack off. You have to take every game as it comes.”

Muldoon has been in fine form for Daggers since making his debut away to Premier League side in the Everton just two days after officially joining.

Having looked solid in defence against both the Toffees and Northampton Town the following week, the 21-year-old then showed his eye for attack against Newport County.

The youngster produced a fine chip in the first minute at Rodney Parade to tee up Christian Doidge for the game’s opening goal while there were several more long, ranging balls forward.

And Muldoon says that is something Daggers fans may see more of in the future, hoping that he can also get his name on the scoresheet for a club he used to watch as a teenager.

“I’ve always liked going forward, I always think I can get a goal,” he added. “It was a different role at Newport, especially within the last couple of games, and it was one that I enjoyed.”
