Yusuff was disappointed to be denied debut goal

New Dagenham & Redbridge forward Ade Yusuff achieved a dream at the weekend by making his debut in the Football League but just wishes he could have found the net to make it a fairytale start to life at Victoria Road.

Yusuff, who only joined Daggers on Friday for an undisclosed fee from Ryman Division One North side Chatham Town, made his debut for the club at the weekend in their 3-2 defeat at home to Cambridge United.

The 20-year-old only made an 18-minute cameo appearance but came agonisingly close to equalising a minute from time.

He controlled a loose ball inside the box with his chest before unleashing a volley towards the top corner but Cambridge keeper Chris Dunn excellently tipped his shot away to prevent the new forward from enjoying the perfect start.

Yusuff was delighted to make his debut but couldn’t hide his disappointment at failing to score, he said: “I am delighted that I have got it sorted and to be playing in the Football League is just a dream come true.

“I think I could have probably scored as well. It would have been a fairytale debut but sometimes it is not to be.”

Yusuff felt Daggers looked in control during the first half against Cambridge but believed the sloppy start to the second period cost his new team all three points.

He added: “We looked so good and comfortable in the first half. We were popping the ball about well and the build up to Luke Howell’s goal was good.

“It looked like we were comfortable and then all of a sudden, a little spell like the first 10-15 minutes of the second half (has cost us).”

More reaction from Daggers new signing Yusuff will be in this weeks Post.
