The U’s tactics and latest news ahead of their trip to face Wayne Burnett’s side

Oxford United come to Victoria Road tomorrow (Saturday) and it has been suggested Michael Appleton will pick the same team that faced Cheltenham Town last weekend.

Whilst Dagenham & Redbridge were able to celebrate an excellent 1-0 victory over Bury, the U’s suffered a 2-1 loss to the Robins.

However, it is predicted Appleton will keep faith with the same eleven that started at the Kassam Stadium, due to the fact that have been unable to sign Bolton Wanderers right-back Joe Riley sign his loan expired.

The 23-year-old returned to the Championship side recently and the U’s boss told the Oxford Mail they have been unable to arrange a deal yet.

“There’s a lot of interest as you’d imagine from other clubs and we’re still speaking to Bolton on a daily basis to see where we’re at,” Appleton told the Oxford Mail.

“They wanted to have a little look at Joe, they have a new manager in place and you’d expect that anyway.

“I’d be very surprised if he comes into the reckoning for the Dagenham game, although we’re certainly not thinking that one’s dead completely.”

If Riley doesn’t sign before tomorrow’s match it is expected Oxford will line up with a 3-4-1-2 formation.

Danny Hylton, who scored twice against Daggers as the two clubs played out an entertaining 3-3 draw earlier in the season, should partner James Roberts up front – with Wes Burns, on loan from Bristol City, just behind them.

Jonathan Meades and Charlton Athletic loanee Tareiq Holmes-Dennis will line up on the right and left side of midfield respectively with Josh Ruffels and Andrew Whing in central midfield.

The back three should consist of Cheyenne Dunkley, on loan from Kidderminster Harries, captain Jake Wright and Johnny Mullins.

Will Hoskins could be fit to take a place on the bench as he makes his return from tearing a tendon in his groin earlier in the campaign.

The 28-year-old has been out injured since September, but played in a development match recently and is expected to be selected for the match day squad by Appleton.
