Pre-season friendly: Maidstone United 1 Dagenham & Redbridge 0

Daggers fell to defeat on the road at Maidstone United in their pre-season friendly tonight.

Jack Parkinson’s first half strike settled the tie, as boss Wayne Burnett added striker David Fitzpatrick to his squad for the trip to Maidstone, having previously played for Southport last season.

And it was the visitors that had the bulk of the chances, but they failed to put them away.

Jon-Paul Pittman saw an early effort held by Stones goalkeeper Lee Worgan, before Matt Bodkin struck the post for the hosts.

Pittman again warmed the hands of Worgan as the lively Bodkin forced a fine save from Mark Cousins after pacing away down the right.

And they took the lead from their second corner in quick succession as Jack Parkinson wasn’t picked up and he tapped home.

Daggers tried their luck from distance on several occasions with Fitzpatrick and Billy Bingham going close after Luke Howell thundered a 25-yard effort against the bar, but was replaced soon after by Frankie Raymond as a precaution after feeling a slight twinge on the back of his thigh.

The usual flurry of substitutions came on at the half-time interval, with trialists Alan Connell and Jamie Cureton linking up particular well up top, with the former firing a shot just wide.

Liam O’Brien was called into action to push Alex Flisher’s shot behind for a corner as the second half lacked the chances of the first.

Connell again went close when he got on the end of a fine ball from Sean Shields, but his directed his header wide of the target.

Nabil Guedioura forced Worgan into a fine save late on, but Daggers fell to their first pre-season loss of the season, and they will now embark on a four-day tour of Spain, before facing Wealdstone next Tuesday.

Daggers (first half): Cousins, Partridge, Green, Saah, Gayle, Bingham, Howell (Raymond 34), Labadie, Fitzpatrick, Ugwu, Pittman.

(second half) - O’Brien, Partridge (Pykes 54), Connors, Doe, Gayle, Bingham (Shields 54), Raymond, Labadie (Obafemi 54), Cureton, Connell, Guedioura.
