Daggers goalkeeper Liam O’Brien insists there’s plenty for the side to put right after Saturday’s disappointing 3-0 home loss to Morecambe.

Kevin Ellison, Padraig Amond and Jack Redshaw all netted as Wayne Burnett’s side endured an opening day to forget.

It could have been worse if the former Brentford goalkeeper hadn’t pulled off a number of solid saves, but admits his debut appearance won’t live long in the memory.

“It’s not great for us but we can learn from what has happened,” said O’Brien.

“Thankfully it is the first game of the season and we have got plenty left to put it right, but we are all gutted.

“There is plenty more games but we have got to make sure we are not saying the exactly same thing after next weekend. We need to go out there at Burton and get three points.

“The saves were comfortable ones really and I am obviously disappointed with all three goals just because it is my first game for the club in the league and I am gutted to come away with a loss.”

The 23-year-old thought the Daggers started promisingly in the opening 45 minutes, but were made to pay by the deadly Kevin Ellison who slotted home the opener.

“Possibly I could have done better with the free-kick but it’s close and you don’t need to give a guy like Kevin Ellison too many chances to make you pay,” he added.

“In the first half it was even, that’s what you expect for the start of a new season. But we did look like we were going to score and it seemed if we would have got the first we would have gone on to win comfortably but they’ve scored, got the second quickly and that was it.”
