Daggers boss happy with 2-0 win over York City
Dagenham & Redbridge boss Wayne Burnett was pleased with the professional performance his side delivered on Saturday against York City, as they won for just the second time at home this season.
Joss Labadie scored in each half to earn a 2-0 victory and give the Victoria Road outfit a third clean sheet of the campaign.
Burnett was pleased with the shutout and the three points at home, which he had stressed prior to the game were vitally important.
“I am very pleased with the three points and everyone knows our home form hasn’t been great,” said the Daggers boss.
“I wouldn’t say we have played great, but it was a very professional performance and I’m delighted we’ve managed to get three points,
“Our back four was good and the most pleasing thing for me was that we kept a clean sheet.”
Jack Connors returned to the starting line-up in place of Nathan Green and Burnett decided to go with a diamond in midfield.
He explained the reason behind the return of Connors and discussed the change in formation, adding: “We played a slightly different formation and we wanted to try and compact the midfield.
“We wasn’t playing with great fluency or fluidity but we managed to get a goal at a good stage.
“I thought Jack did ok. We changed it slightly and Nathan was left out of the team.
“We just felt our full-backs would get a lot of the ball and Jack might be better suited on that front.
“It wasn’t done because anybody hasn’t played very well, it was done more from a tactical point of view.”
Burnett also revealed a change in dugouts occurred just an hour and a half before Saturday’s match.
Staff moved to the traditional ‘away’ dugout and the change appeared to bring good luck.
“If we had lost we would have moved the dugouts back to where they were!” joked Burnett.
“But no, it was only purely to accommodate for our staff.
“I would like to say we were being a bit superstitious, but we were not.
“We have got too many staff now and next to where the away dugout is, there is a small area with about seven or eight seats. Everyone thinks it is a superstitious thing now!”
