Daggers midfielder still waiting for confirmation from Football League that his contract has been ended six months early
Conference South outfit Ebbsfleet United have announced the signing of Dagenham & Redbridge midfielder Sean Shields, but the 22-year-old’s contract with the Victoria Road club hasn’t officially ended yet.
The Northern Irish under-21 international has agreed to end his contract with Daggers six months early, but the League Two club are still waiting for confirmation from the Football League that Shields contract has been mutually ended.
Shields has been on loan at Stonbridge Road since December 9 and been a regular under new Fleet manager Jamie Day.
And Wayne Burnett revealed earlier this week discussion were set to take place with Ebbsfleet about the midfielder, and the Conference South side have now announced he has joined them on an 18-month contract.
Although Daggers are still awaiting confirmation from the Football League, Shields will depart Victoria Road having made just two starts since signing for the club in January 2013.
The youngster was John Still’s last transfer before departing to Luton Town, but has struggled for chances under Burnett and spent the majority of the start of the current campaign on loan at former club St Albans City.
When confirmed by the Football League, he will exit Daggers having made 13 appearances in all competitions for the club.
