Dagenham & Redbridge boss John Still hopeful his side have learnt their lesson from two home defeats.

Dagenham & Redbridge boss John Still is backing goalkeeper Chris Lewington and the rest of his team to bounce back tomorrow against Northampton Town.

The Daggers slipped to two successive home defeats against Southend United and Port Vale and will look to return to winning ways against the Cobblers, who beat them 1-0 in the reverse fixture in November.

Lewington came out of his goal after four minutes of Saturday’s loss to claim a long throw-in, only to miss it and result in Tom Pope heading into an empty net to give the Valiants the lead.

“He’s made a mistake he has come for a ball he’s never going to get and they have scored a goal from it.,” said Still.

“He knows he shouldn’t have come for it but that doesn’t do us any good now. Chris has made some fantastic saves for us this season and his errors as well, but he is a young goalkeeper who is learning his trade.

“I have to accept that we are going to get the odd mistake but they have to learn and learn quick and not make the same mistake again.”

Before those two home games, Daggers were on a run of five wins in seven and had pushed themselves into the top half of the table.

And though they’ve slipped to 15th with the two defeats, Still wants his side to start 2013 on a positive note.

“Every game is important, I try to get that over to the players,” he said.

“All these players are in the shop window, we are Dagenham. They have got to go out and produce their best because we have worked hard to get a good position this year. In doing that we have helped a player (Dwight Gayle) on his way.

“We have got some good young players here but there consistency levels have got to be better than that.”
