Since returning to Dagenham & Redbridge, John Still has been a busy man having already made four additions to his playing squad, but he has now started shaping his backroom staff.

Ian Culverhouse made his first appearance on a matchday at Victoria Road on Saturday, putting Daggers through their paces before the clash with Northampton Town.

The 51-year-old has a host of experience in coaching, having worked alongside Paul Lambert as assistant manager at Colchester United, Norwich City and Aston Villa.

Culverhouse will perform a similar role at Dagenham as Still’s number two and looks set to work alongside Jim Stannard and Darren Currie, who were both coaches during Wayne Burnett’s spell in charge.

Still is pleased to have made his first addition to his coaching staff, believing Culverhouse’s days of working at a higher level will come in handy in Daggers’ bid to avoid relegation from League Two.

“Ian is a very experienced coach and he’s worked for me before. He’s worked in the Premier League with Norwich and Aston Villa, so he has great knowledge,” said Still.

While nothing has been officially confirmed by the club as yet, Culverhouse’s appointment appears to spell the end of Warren Hackett’s involvement with the first team.

Hackett, who worked as Burnett’s assistant and took caretaker charge alongside Currie over the Christmas period, was not present on the bench during Saturday’s loss at home to the Cobblers.

The former Saint Lucia international had initially joined the club as academy director and centre of excellence manager before being promoted to first-team duties in 2013.

But it appears Hackett has now left Daggers and Still was quick to thank the 44-year-old for all of his work with the east Londoners.

“Warren has done a brilliant job, but sometimes there are lots of similarities between people,” added Still. “It’s about trying to get a diverse view of what you’re doing and I think Ian brings that.”
