Daggers boss urges squad to stick to what they are told ahead of Oxford United clash

John Still has urged his Dagenham & Redbridge team to successfully execute their game plan tonight (Tuesday) as the League Two bottom club look to cause a shock at automatic promotion hopefuls Oxford United.

Daggers suffered a blow in their bid to survive with a 3-1 loss at fellow strugglers Hartlepool United on Saturday, while the U’s were 1-0 losers at home to Leyton Orient.

Both sides will be keen to bounce back with a win at the Kassam Stadium tonight, and Still knows the best way for his team to achieve that is to stick to their game plan.

He also added that it has been business as usual on the training ground as the east Londoners look to cut the gap to safety to just six points.

“I do the same thing every day I go to work and so do the staff,” said Still. “The players have a responsibility when on the pitch to stay as close to what we want them to do as possible.”

Dagenham will be boosted by the return of skipper Joss Labadie after he served a two-game ban for picking up 10 yellow cards, while Oliver Hawkins could also be set for a recall to the starting XI.

The tall striker has had a cameo role for Daggers in recent matches, but with fellow attacker Christian Doidge struggling in front of goal, there is a feeling Still may shuffle his pack against Oxford.

“Oliver came on at Hartlepool and did really well. He’s been left out for a few games because of a sore foot, but he came on and caused problems so there are positives there,” added Still.

There will be undoubted pressure on Hawkins to find the net if he starts, with Daggers averaging less than a goal a game so far this season, rattling the net just 34 times in 36 league games.
