There were two new faces on show for Dagenham & Redbridge in their FA Cup match at Everton as both Joe Worrall and Oliver Muldoon made their debuts after joining on loan last week.

Worrall, who was part of the Nottingham Forest side that reached the FA Youth Cup quarter finals last season, was superb in defence, with his reading of the game belying his 18 years.

Charlton Athletic youngster Muldoon, who hails from Hornchurch, performed the anchor man role in midfield admirably and, like Worrall, caught the eye with an impressive display against the Premier League side.

Pierce Sweeney looked to be another loan addition to the squad at Victoria Road before suffering an injury in training and returning to parent club Reading for treatment.

Muldoon and Worrall were John Still’s first signings since returning for a third spell as Daggers boss and the 65-year-old believes the two youngsters have the ability to guide the team up the table.

“Joe is a good one. I’ve had my eye on him and Ollie for a while. People don’t realise that Ollie is a Daggers supporter and he was at Wembley when we won promotion!” said Still.

“I’ve always had my eye on him and I’ve seen a little bit of Nottingham Forest and Joe stood out. When the lad Sweeney got injured, I had to act pretty quickly. In fairness to (Forest boss) Dougie Freedman, he did fantastic for me.

“With our previous loans going back, we were up against it before the Everton game, so I’m really pleased for us and then. They’re with us until the end of the season, so let’s keep our fingers crossed that they’ll carry on improving.

January already looked set to be a busy month for the returning Still, with the boss also making decisions on who should stay and who should go in Dagenham’s bid to avoid the drop.

And the former Luton Town manager is fully aware that more work lies ahead for him during his first month back in charge of the east Londoners/

“We still need a change or two and we’ll be back to work this week,” added Still. “I think we probably a couple of weeks to get everything bang on, but it’s very encouraging.”
