Mark Cousins ruled out so Liam O’Brien to come into starting team
Liam O’Brien is set to start a competitive match for the first time since October as Dagenham & Redbridge take on Tranmere Rovers today.
Usual number one Mark Cousins suffered a nasty head injury on Tuesday night during the 2-0 win against Hartlepool United and manager Wayne Burnett confirmed he won’t be available for this weekend’s clash.
Therefore O’Brien will take over the goalkeeper duties and will start for the first time since October 7 when he couldn’t prevent Daggers losing to Leyton Orient in the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy.
The 23-year-old came on as a substitute on Tuesday night, though, and looked assured. He will now hope to impress at Prenton Park this afternoon.
Burnett’s other decision to make will be whether captain Abu Ogogo is fit enough to continue at right-back.
He felt his hamstring in the warm-up against Hartlepool and Damian Batt was drafted in at the last minute.
It is believed Ogogo should be able to shake off his injury and start today, but experienced defender Brian Saah moved to Woking on loan yesterday and won’t be among the substitutes this time.
Shamir Fenelon spent time at Tranmere earlier this campaign and will hope to start against his former club after playing 76 minutes on Tuesday.
