Daggers boss discusses Abu Ogogo’s role in team
Dagenham & Redbridge manager Wayne Burnett has conceded captain Abu Ogogo would like to be playing in midfield, but is happy he is putting the team first.
The 25-year-old returned to the starting team last weekend playing right-back in the 2-0 win at York City and kept his place during the goalless draw with Portsmouth on Tuesday night.
And he is expected to be in defence again versus Morecambe this afternoon, but Daggers boss admits his skipper would like to be back in his favoured position.
“Abs has done brilliantly against Portsmouth and he wants to play in midfield – we are all aware of that,” said Burnett.
“He understands the team comes first and that is what he has done.
“We have missed him because he is still one of the top midfield goalscorers and he has been out for so long.
“We probably miss his goalscoring, but he had a lot of the ball against Portsmouth and got forward.
“He looked a little bit leggy towards the end, but he has played two games now in quick succession and he has been out for 10 or 11 weeks so all credit to him.”
Zavon Hines remains Daggers only injury concern for today’s math at Globe Arena, but other than that Burnett has a fully fit squad to choose from.
He will have to make a decision about the fitness of Jamie Cureton after the 39-year-old started against both York and Portsmouth.
It is expected the forward, who has scored 11 times this campaign, will again be included in the starting team.
