Daggers boss Wayne Burnett has no new injury concerns ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Oxford United, but the comeback of striker Rhys Murphy has been delayed slightly.

Murphy, the Daggers 13-goal top marksman from last season, picked up a hip injury last March.

And though the 23-year-old striker has been back in training for the past few weeks, he has been suffering from some inflammation round the hip on his road to recovery.

An initial date of the first week of September had been set for the former Arsenal man, but that has now been put back for at least a fortnight.

“Rhys is getting a little bit of inflammation around the hip joint,” said Burnett. “At the moment he’s having one day one day off but he should still be on course for the second or third week of September.”

Striker Christian Doidge (foot) was awaiting test results to discover the extent of his injury picked up in the pre-match warm-up at Hartlepool United, but the boss it’s would that it would only reveal bruising.

Elsewhere, former Oxford defender Damian Batt is likely to miss out despite returning to training following his adductor injury, while the U’s fixture will have come too soon for midfielder Billy Bingham (shins), who was back in light training this week.

“Christian is having a scan on the injury, but we hope the injury isn’t as bad and that it’s just a bruised foot and that he can return as soon as possible,” said Burnett.

“Damian trained Tuesday and did so again yesterday but it may be too soon for Saturday. Billy started back on Tuesday but he’s a long way behind and may need a couple of weeks or so.”

Other than that, the Daggers will be without long-term absentees Rhys Murphy (hip) and Zavon Hines (knee).

Murphy was hoping to be back for the opening week in September, but has received a slight setback in his bid to return.

Daggers’ top goalscorer from last season has been out since March, and despite returning to training has suffered an inflammation around the hips which he has had surgery on.
