Pre-season friendly: Bromley 0 Dagenham & Redbridge 1

Trialist Alan Connell netted the only goal of the game as Daggers picked up a win in their pre-season opener at Conference South side Bromley

Connell found the net after 12 minutes, and generally impressed in his 45 minutes on the pitch.

Boss Wayne Burnett took the opportunity to look at few triallists in the strikers department with Connell, previously with Northampton, Grimsby, Bradford and Swindon. There were also run outs for former Daggers loaner Troy Hewitt, who barely featured, and ex-Crawley and Wycombe front man Jon-Paul Pittman all starting.

And after a slow start, Connell made an impact as he raced on to Scott Doe’s throughball and slotted past an onrushing Seb Brown in the Bromley goal.

Chances were few and far between throughout the half, but Liam O’Brien was called into action on a few occasions for the Daggers.

He got down low to keep out a weak Louis Dennis effort, before tipping a Ali Fuseini shot wide.

And the former Dagger Dennis then got on the end of Reece Prestedge’s delivery from the right, but headed over the bar.

Only Doe reappeared for the second half as Burnett made wholesale changes to the side.

Gozie Ugwu, formerly of Reading, Nabil Guedioura, previously with Crystal Palace’s development squad and Venezuelan Marco Lobo, got their opportunity as the Daggers also introduced new signings Frankie Raymond, Nathan Green and goalkeeper Mark Cousins.

Doe blocked Harry Grant’s effort early in the second period while Bradley Goldberg, who has a successful loan at Bromley last season, looked promising up the other end as he forced Brown to tip a low effort wide and then had another effort cleared off the line.

Bromley had a plethora of chances to level late on though as former Gillingham striker Adam Birchall twice was twice guilty of spurning great opportunities and his lack of profligacy ensured Daggers picked up the win.

Burnett’s side will return to Kent on Tuesday when they face Ryman Premier side Maidstone United in their next pre-season friendly.

Daggers (first half): O’Brien, Connors, Batt, Doe, Saah, Bingham, Howell, Ogogo, Pittman, Hewitt, Connell.

(second half): Cousins, Green, Doe (Connors), Gayle, Pykes, Raymond, Obafemi, Lobo, Goldberg, Guedioura, Ugwu.
