Blues boss fully aware his squad all have targets on their backs

Barking player/joint-manager Glen Golby believes Southend Manor will prove a tough nut to crack when the sides meet in the Essex Senior League this weekend.

The Blues entertain Manor this weekend, looking to take another giant stride towards the title following a 2-1 win at Wadham Lodge on Tuesday night.

With Manor currently fifth, Golby knows it will be a difficult encounter, and is also aware that like every other side in the divisiuon, Southend will want to get a win over the league leaders.

“It doesn’t matter who we play now, a team at the top or bottom, they all want to beat us and Southend Manor will be no different,” he added.

“It will be another tough game as Manor are the kind of team who like to make you work hard. I’m sure Stuart Marshall (Manor’s manager) will have a game plan, and we’ll have to work hard to break them down.”

Following Saturday’s match with Manor, Barking will then prepare for the quarter-final with Sawbridgeworth.

But Golby admits he is happy to forgo cup success if it means the team are in a stronger position to win the league title.

“We’ve said all along, cup games are not the priority, but it would be nice to reach a final,” he said.

“We will be giving minutes to those who need them. We have to reward those who have been patient and rotate the squad accordingly.”
