Essex Senior League: Barking 2 Waltham Forest 1

Barking made it seven straight wins in the Essex Senior League with a 2-1 success at home to Waltham Forest, despite ending the match with 10 men.

The Blues took the lead at Mayesbrook Park after just eight minutes when Ben O’Brien fired in a rebound from close range after an initial shot cannoned back off the post.

On the stroke of half time, the league leaders doubled their advantage when Joe Pearman scored from the spot after a foul in the penalty area by a Forest defender.

Barking, however, saw their lead halved after the interval when Forest hit back with a 30-yard effort through Lee Flynn.

Both teams then had a man dismissed late on as Barking’s Billy Rix and Brian Moses of Forest were given their marching orders.

With no further goals, though, the Blues held on to win and were able to open up a seven-point lead at the top with nearest challengers Hullbridge Sports not in action.

Barking: J Willis; Higgs, S Willis, Taylor, Tarbard; Staunton, Oshin, O’Brien, Pearman; Delgado, Peagram.

Subs: Bricknell, Burgess, Rix, Wackers-Kyriacou, Golby
