Experienced striker has joined the Gunners youth academy and will coach their under-16s

Former Dagenham & Redbridge and Leyton Orient forward Jamie Cureton has taken his first steps into coaching by linking up with Arsenal’s youth academy.

The 42-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career in the professional game and played for 13 teams in the Football League.

Despite his age, Cureton has not hung up his boots yet and has been finding the net for Farnborough of the Southern League Premier Division this season.

But the striker, who became a firm fans favourite during his two-year spell with Daggers, is now getting into coaching.

Cureton will spend a couple of days a week at Arsenal working with their under-16s as well as playing for Farnborough after agreeing a contract with the Premier League club recently.

The one-time O’s attacker is also understood to be doing his coaching badges, as he looks to what he will do once he does eventually call it a day.

During his heyday, Cureton scored goals for fun in the old Second Division – League One – with Bristol Rovers while he also boasted an impressive record in the Championship with Colchester and Norwich City.

Although the forward had a less successful spell with Orient, he flourished at Dagenham and is well placed to advise the next generation at the Gunners.
