A round-up of the latest action from the Essex Alliance League

The new Essex Alliance League kicked off in some style with 46 goals across the divisions on the opening day of the new season.

Last year’s Premier Division runners-up May & Baker EC A began their title quest in perfect fashion with a 1-0 win over Melbourne Sports, although the visitors wasted their chance to grab a draw by missing a late penalty.

Jolof SC will look to challenge May & Baker for top honours this year and also began their campaign with a 2-0 victory away to newly-promoted London Falcons.

But the early leaders in the top flight are new side Buckhurst Hill under-21s, who thrashed Chingford Town 5-0 with goals from Richard Akinlade (2), Cam Ovel, Jerome Richards and Jordan Chambers.

There was only one game on the opening weekend in Division One, with Three Colts highlighting their championship credentials with a 5-0 triumph against Chingford Harriers thanks to strikes from Matt Daley (2), Jason Fox, James Kane and Sean Bellamy.

In Division Two, new boys London APSA are the pace setters after demolishing Leyton Green 6-0 while Chingford Athletic reserves recorded a 5-3 victory against Newham Royals.

Singh Sabha Barking and Inter Plaistow played out a 2-2 draw but the match of the weekend was Flyers reserves’ thrilling 5-4 win over St Franics reserves.

Defending Premier Division champions Chingford Athletic were in East Ham Memorial Hospitals’ Charity Cup action but were knocked out by Essex Olympian outfit East Londoners, going down 4-2 despite twice taking the lead.
