Pablo Zabaleta has urged West Ham United to improve their discipline and concentration if they are to move out of the Premier League bottom three any time soon.

The Hammers are 18th in the table with just nine points to their name after losing 4-1 at home to Liverpool last time out on November 4.

It proved the final straw for Slaven Bilic with the Croatian losing his job last week and being replaced by David Moyes.

Moyes has had more time than usual to work with his new group of players due to the international break and right-back Zabaleta is keen to show everyone an improvement at Watford this Sunday.

He said: “If you look at our performances this season, especially against the top sides, it seems we always start well and then we concede.

“We were 2-0 down against Liverpool and then we scored one goal, but conceded another so early after (Manuel) Lanzini’s goal, so it was difficult.

“We just need to improve our discipline as a team and our concentration and all these things because this is the Premier League. It is one of the most competitive leagues in the world and no game is easy.

“You need to perform well to win any game, so the new manager has watched all of this and we’ve been talking about this a bit with him and we need to improve in every way – both offensively and defensively.”

One of West Ham’s main issues has been a leaky defence and you imagine Moyes will look to solve that problem first.

Zabaleta also feels they must be better going forward after scoring only 11 goals in the Premier League this season.

“We need to be more creative and not concede so many goals and that is individually as well so us as players need to step up,” said the former Manchester City full-back.

“We need more individual performances and then, when you can see individual players are at their best week in, week out then collectively you can see we are a good team and we have a good squad, but we need to improve definitely.”

The Hammers will look to show some green shoots this weekend at Vicarage Road and Zabaleta’s confident.

Watford started the season strongly, but are currently three games without a win since beating Arsenal 2-1 on October 14

He added: “They are in a great position. They lost a crazy game against Everton (3-2 on November 5) and got beaten by Stoke at home a few weeks ago, so of course it is going to be tough, but we also have a good squad and good players.

“We need to work well and be focused on that game and put in a good performance to try and get three points.”
