It has been another busy week of sport across our corner of East London and Essex and, in a new feature, we take a look at some of our favourite stories from our editions over the past seven days in The Saturday Six.

A typical week can see our team reporting on anything from athletics, basketball, cricket, darts, football, hockey, ice hockey, karate, rugby, swimming, tennis and volleyball, from West Ham in the Premier League down to under-eights mini rugby in a local park.

But we always like to hear about any kind of sporting stories, so don’t hesitate to get in touch with your news.

1) Plenty of athletes in the Barking & Dagenham Post headed for warmer climes to take part in endurance races. Diarmuid Mac Donnell of Barking Road Runners was in Las Vegas for the Rock ‘n’ Roll Marathon, while Dagenham 88s’ Timi and Sam Veerasamy took part in the Valencia marathon.

2) Newham Youngbloods under-16s’ derby success over local rivals NASSA was reported in the Newham Recorder. Youngbloods claimed bragging rights thanks to a 89-58 victory at UEL SportsDock.

3) In the East London Advertiser, Docklands Karate Club were celebrating as three members lifted British titles at the annual Kyokushinkai Championships. Chris Da Costa, Alexandra Nauth-Misir and Neli Tsoneva all triumphed in Slough.

4) The first London Youth Games event of the year got a mention in the Ilford Recorder, as Redbridge sent a squad of 57 to take part in the cross-country competition at Parliament. The story of how the respective boroughs fared is also mentioned in our other titles.

5) Old Loughtonians’ success in their table-topping East Premier A clash with St Albans is reported on in the Wanstead & Woodford Recorder. Loughts won thanks to a late strike form Rory Coltham and remain top of the standings.
