Lee Richardson, one of the greatest riders ever to wear Hammers colours, will be remembered when Lakeside launch an exciting new era.

The Arena-Essex Raceway club are back in senior action at Championship level after securing promotion - and they boast some of the most exciting riders in the league.

Now they’ll start the season with a special event, The Lee Richardson Spring Classic, on Friday, March 23.

Richardson paid the ultimate price for his devotion to the sport in May 2012 after a tragic crash in Poland.

But he remains close to the hearts of every Hammers fan and the club feel this is the perfect way to let the tapes rise on 2018.

Co-promoter Jon Cook said: “Time moves on but we never forget Lee, he is a true club legend and a Hammers icon.

“Think of Lakeside Hammers and you think of Lee Richardson.

“He was a class act, very professional and always had the best machinery to ensure he could score as many points as possible for the club.

“There are exciting times ahead for Hammers fans and we believe this is a great way to launch the season.”
