Olympic rowing: Team GB women’s eights fail to make an impression in the final
Rowing duo Louisa Reeve and Caroline O’Connor could not help Team GB’s women’s eights mount a challenge to the all-conquering crew of the United States who retained their Olympic title.
Great Britain trailed home in fifth, almost eight seconds behind the five-time world champions who have gone unbeaten since 2006.
The home crew were bronze medallists at the world championships in 2011 but they have struggled to recapture that form this week in London.
Even the other medal winners - Canada with silver and the Netherlands taking bronze – could not chase the US down with the North American neighbours crossing the finish line almost two seconds behind them.
