Dagenham fighter Kevin Mitchell will get his third chance to win the World Lightweight title when he takes on Jorge Linares in May.

The WBC title showdown against Venezuelan three-weight world champ Linares will take place at the 02 in London on May 30.

The 30-year-old won the right to take on Linares with a stunning performance to stop Daniel Estrada in January and it is a real coup that the fight will take place in England rather than either Las Vegas, or even Tokyo where Linares is based.

Also on the bill will be Welshman Lee Selby who takes on IBF featherweight king Evgeny Gradovich in the Russian’s fifth defence of the title, as well as heavyweight sensation Anthony Joshua.

Promoter Eddie Hearn is delighted to get things sorted out.

“This is a huge night for British boxing and today’s announcement is just the beginning,” said Hearn.

“I’m delighted to deliver shots for Kevin and Lee in the UK and they have every chance of becoming World champions on May 30. Linares is an incredible fighter, a three-weight World ruler, but Kevin has been exceptional with us and I truly believe he is going to do it.”

Tickets are set to go on sale at the end of next week – a further announcement on prices and on-sale dates will be made soon.
