Royal Ascot: Martin Girdwood discusses his tips for the big races this week

Archant London sat down with the Girdys Gee Gees tipster last week

The biggest meet of the flat race calendar is upon us once again as Royal Ascot takes over a small part of Berkshire this week.

Punters will be treated to five days of top quality horse racing, all looking to make a pretty penny.

At Archant London, we’ve enlisted tipster Martin Girdwood of Girdys Gee Gees to offer his tips for the week.

In the first race of Royal Ascot, the Queen Anne Stakes at 2.30pm on Tuesday, Martin has plumped for Ribchester, while he has gone for Lady Aurelia in the King’s Stand Stakes at 3.40pm and Churchill in the St James’s Palace Stakes at 4.20pm.

Wednesday sees the richest race of the week, the Prince of Wales’s Stakes at 4.20pm, with Martin tipping Ulysees to do well.

In the Gold Cup at 4.20pm on Thursday, Martin hopes that Big Orange can pull off a shock and defeat Order of St George.

On Friday, Martin believes Blue Point will go well in the Commonwealth Cup at 3.40pm and expects Winter to triumph in the Coronation Stakes at 4.20pm.

The final day of action, Saturday, sees just the one Group One race, with Martin tipping The Tin Man in the Diamond Jubilee Stakes at 4.20pm.
