First and third in the division both want Christmas cheer
May & Baker and Dagenham go head-to-head this weekend in a mouthwatering clash to end the Essex One campaign for 2014.
D’s coach Mark Collins and Bakers captain Andy Yarrow are excited about the fixture and remain hopeful their team can achieve a positive result.
Collins watched the league leaders win 47-0 on Saturday and was impressed with them.
“They are out and out favourites,” he said about his local rivals.
“We need to match them one to 15, not just in a few key areas. Hopefully we battle throughout and we can take our chances.”
Collins team were beaten 43-29 by league leaders Bakers earlier in the season.
But he has taken positives from the match on September 20, adding: “I am looking forward to this weekend.
“This time around hopefully we can make a much better fist of it and keep our heads screwed on.
“If our heads are screwed on we can get something, but Bakers are the favourites.”
Yarrow is equally exciting about the match and would love for his side to end the year with the perfect Essex One record.
They beat Pegasus last weekend to make it 10 wins in 10 and sit top of the table with 47 points.
“The thought of doing the double over our nearest and dearest rivals is so exciting,” said Yarrow.
“If we could beat them and get a bonus-point win, it would really take them out of the running for the title I think.
“At the same time, they could end our unbeaten home record and our record this season. I am sure Dagenham are as hyped up as we are for it.”
Joe Jones and Josh Proctor crossed over twice for Bakers last weekend to earn another win.
Dan Stanbridge, Connor Wilson and Jay Walsh also picked up tries in the bonus-point success to keep up their momentum.
