May & Baker captain Andy Yarrow was pleased his team started the year with a win, as they progressing into the last-eight of the Junior Vase following a 36-0 win over Crusaders.

Yarrow went over twice, alongside Dan Stanbridge, Sam Chandler, Connor Wilson and Bobby Dinnen for a six-try success on home soil.

Tony Bly kicked three extras as they returned to action, following a week break, in style to start the new year with a win.

“For us the league is the priority, but a nice cup run is great and we were pleased to get the win,” said Yarrow.

“It is good for us to be in action ahead of our league game this weekend as well, it makes sure we will be sharp for Millwall.

“I got two tries myself as well, I must have got a bit greedy over Christmas!

“The type of weathers we played in suits me down to a tee. I am not going to be a guy that runs half the length of the pitch.”

Yarrow described the conditions on Saturday as a ‘mud bath’ and also revealed he likes facing teams that are unknown.

Eastern Counties Division One outfit Crusaders travelled down from Norfolk for the match and the Bakers captain was happy his side proved to be the better performer on the day.

“It was all about who adapted best to the conditions on the day and we did,” added Yarrow.

“I do like it when we are facing an unknown quantity because people can hype up games too much when everyone knows a lot about each other.

“But when you don’t know much about each other it is just about who turns up on the day and performs best and we got a good win.”
