London One North: Barking 41 Ruislip 22

Barking got their new campaign off to a winning start with a home success over Ruislip on Saturday.

They started all guns blazing and found themselves 14-0 up inside the first 10 minutes with tries from Joe Cook and Elliot Brown, both of which were converted by Ben Lloyd.

Lloyd then slotted over a penalty before Ruislip capitalised on a knock on which wasn’t spotted by the referee

The Middlesex visitors then added a penalty of their own at the midway point of the half, thought Barking responded in style.

Aaron Higgins pounced on a loose ball and the full back ran half the field before crossing the try line.

Back came Ruislip again though, scoring a converted try five minutes before the break, though Lloyd slotted over a penalty for Barking as they ended the half 27-17 ahead.

After the break, Barking’s forwards paid dividends as they dominated a scrum and Ruislip conceded a penalty try, which was once again converted.

But with 55 minutes on the clock the Gale Street hosts conceded a sloppy try as their lead was reduced to 35-22.

The visitors started to mount the pressure and Sam Clarke was sent to the sin bin after Steve Wagstaff’s side persistently infringed.

The error count went up as the game entered the final 15 minutes and the tension around the ground began to build.

But all that was relieved when Clarke made amends for his early sin bin as he crossed the try line in an easy overlap move, and Lloyd added the extras to complete the victory.

Barking will be hoping for more of the same at early league leaders Chingford on Saturday.
