Coach not happy with players missing training

Dagenham head coach Mark Collins admits consistency is a real problem for his team as they make the trip to Canvey Island in Essex One this weekend.

The D’s make the trip to Essex hoping for joy, but Collins concedes availability is hurting his team.

Although the Islanders are eighth in the table, Collins expects a stern challenge.

“We go down to Canvey this week and we know it will be difficult,” said Collins.

“If we can stay in the game for 40 minutes, hopefully we can use our fitness.

“But it is about putting the right side out. I spoke earlier in the season about needing consistency, but it is about getting consistency in availability.”

D’s were beaten 40-15 by Upper Clapton last weekend, their first match since December 20.

Billy Nelson crossed over twice for D’s, but Collins he conceded the visitors deserved their success.

He added: “Credit to Upper Clapton, they were the best side on the day and killed us off with a few late tries.

“We needed another score to get it 30-22. If we got that we could’ve pushed them and maybe got the bonus point.

“I did put a training session on for December 30, I came back from Liverpool for it, but the players didn’t want to do it.

“If you don’t train you will pay the price and that is what happened for us.”
