Dagenham lost again last weekend and face Millwall on Saturday

Dagenham coach Mark Collins is staying upbeat ahead of this weekend’s Essex One clash with Millwall, despite suffering another loss on Saturday.

Writtle Wanderers visited D’s and handed them a 66-21 defeat – their 10th reverse of the campaign. But Collins is keeping positive ahead.

“We go to Millwall this weekend and we want to nick a point or four,” he said.

“If we could nick four that would be excellent.

“We still have a capable squad, it is just when you get unavailability, injuries and sickness that we get problems on the pitch.

“We’ve lost a lot of players, but if they shoot off at the sign of a pound note, it is fine. At the moment we have a group of players who are working hard to make the club better in all areas.”

Lee Dyer scored two tries in the weekend defeat to Writtle, with Lithuanian Romais Danisas crossing over for the other score.

Dyer kicked all three conversions as well, but D’s were targeting a bonus point.

Collins added: “It was disappointing because we had a small squad again.

“We had more square pegs in round holes.

“The aim was to get a bonus point and we didn’t, which was disappointing. But the boys were in good spirits afterwards and that was pleasing to see.

“We will lose more than we win because it is a rebuild, but we are working hard and doing more good work off the field at the moment.”
