National Two South: Barking 3 Worthing 58
Oliver Forrest’s 15th minute penalty was all Barking had to show for their efforts as they went down to a heavy 58-3 home defeat against Worthing on Saturday.
At the helm for the visitors was Matt McLean, who notched up 22 points along the way in the comfortable victory for the Sussex visitors.
McLean, last season’s top points scorer for the Raiders started as he meant to go on, scoring a penalty with only two minutes on the clock and added to that with a 40-metre dash for a fine solo try.
He added a second on 21 minutes and was joined in the try scoring stakes by James Arthur, Sam Hewick, Darren Clayton, Joe Covett, Alex Nielsen and a double for Jamie Redmayne
At the break Worthing were in full command with a 27-3 advantage and for the second week in succession Barking failed to score a point in the second period.
Clayton went over for a converted try and replacement Redmayne scored a five-minute double on 63 and 68 minutes respectively before Nielsen rounded off a miserable day for the Goresbrook hosts with the Raiders ninth try.
Barking: Foster, Lowe, Udo-Udoma, Yellowlees, Baffour-Awuah, Forrest, Honey, R Turner, S Turner, John, Kersey, Peasnall, Anderson, Kearsey, Sinfield. Replacements: Bowles, McFarlane, Fox, Ibberson.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
