Gale Street chief disappointed to concede three soft tries.

Barking head coach Steve Wagstaff was pleased with the manner in which his side saw the game out as they secured their third London One North win on the spin over Old Priorians on Saturday.

But although the Gale Street side emerged 30-22 victors, Wagstaff was disappointed to concede three ‘soft’ tries.

“I was very pleased with the way we started off, but there were a few lapses in concentration and we were weak in the tackle on a few occasions,” said Wagstaff.

“We conceded three very soft tries and we failed to punish them when they went down on numbers on a few occasions.

“They had one red card and a couple of yellows, but we didn’t make them pay for that. We managed to close the game out well, though, in the latter stages and to win and play badly is no mean feat.”

Sam Clark and player-coach Ben Lloyd were two of the try scorers in the victory, but Wagstaff reserved special praise for Craig Ratford in his new full back role.

“The scrum performed well against a wily old pack, but I thought ‘Ratty’ (Craig Ratford) was outstanding,” added Wagstaff.

“He is really settling into his new role and coming into his own. I was delighted with his contribution at the weekend and he offers us an alternative at fly half. But he is clearly very skilful and a loyal club man as well. Elliot Brown always looks dangerous with ball in hand at scrum-half and Ben Lloyd produced a fine individual try.

“Our forwards were completely dominant, but there’s still plenty we need to work on.”
