Local qualifier to take place at Gale Street on Saturday

Saturday promises to be an action-packed day at Barking RFC as the Essex qualifying leg of the RFU 24/Sevens competition, with free entry for spectators.

The qualifier forms part of the nationwide competition, with the Essex event leg of 40 local events, with the winners moving on to the regional round.

There are 24 teams expected to take part, 12 in the ‘Open’ section and 12 in the ‘Club/Social’ competition, with Barking entering their own ‘Tornadoes’ squad.

There will also be a four-team women’s competition, with the first match at 10am and the final game of the day scheduled for 5.20pm.

The Essex RFU 24/Sevens qualifier is not the only event at Barking on Saturday, with the clubhouse also open for the British & Irish Lions match against the Crusaders at 8.35am.

Bars will be situated around the Gale Street ground throughout the day, with hot food also being served, while there will be music, as well as bouncy castles and face painting for children.
