May & Baker captain Andy Yarrow was delighted to do the double over local rivals Dagenham at the weekend and ensure they finished 2014 with an unbeaten league record.

Bakers ran out 25-10 winners over the D’s in a close fought Essex One contest.

Yarrow scored in the win, alongside Joe Jones, Josh Cook, Jay Walsh and Dave O’Sullivan.

He admitted they endured a tough time in the opening 40, but was pleased they eventually secured the victory.

“We made it hard work in the first half, but full credit to Dagenham because they made it that hard for us,” Yarrow said.

“We were maybe a little bit stupid to get complacent and a few were thinking about the team night out.

“But Dagenham were third in the table so we shouldn’t have been thinking that way and they are our local rivals.

“It has been quite a while since May & Baker did the double over Dagenham so it was a great achievement and a lot of the old boys were complimentary.”

Yarrow paid tribute to Dagenham after they showed the Essex One leaders a lot of respect after the match, despite being fierce rivals.

He was pleased they were able to raise their level of performance after the break.

Yarrow added: “I wouldn’t say it was a game of two halves, but it was much more competitive in the first half.

“Second half we switched it on and really turned it on for a 20-25 minute period and won the game.

“Full credit to Dagenham because after the game they were very complimentary and it has not always been like that over the years.”

Bakers are next in action in the National Vase when they host Crusaders on January 3 at May & Baker Sports & Social Club.
