Return from show with nine medals
Barking Karate Club returned from the recent Seishan Karate tournament in Hadleigh, Essex, with nine medals to show for their efforts.
Fighter of the day went to six-year-old Nathan Blewitt after his third place in the kumite (fighting) category.
In total there were four first places for the club with Mehmet Ismail, Kirsty Milne and Samantha Milne all successful in their Kumite events, while Omar Shafi struck gold in his Kata event.
Shafi topped off his day with a second in the kumite, which was a feat that was replicated by Ahmed Ismail and Adam Stovell.
Claudia Pietrusinska finished with a bronze medal in her Kumite category alongside Blewitt to round off the fine showing from the club which trains at the United Service club in Blake Avenue every Monday under the leadership of sensei Tony Gray, fifth dan.
Napoli president Aurelio De Laurentiis has played down suggestions he wants Rafael Benitez to be the club’s new head coach and claimed the delegation that visited England yesterday was hoping to secure an exchange deal with Manchester City for Edinson Cavani.
