Dance group Diversity are to carry the Olympic torch at Dagenham Town Show, it has emerged.
The Britain’s Got Talent winners from Dagenham will join acts including The Hollies, soul singer Lemar and BGT finalist Molly Rainford for the 60th show at Central Park in Wood Lane this weekend.
Sunday’s torch relay is to start in the borough at Barking Park at the Ilford Lane entrance shortly before 10am, with a torchbearer set to ride its miniature train, then wind its way through Barking and Dagenham streets and end at Central Park at around 1.15pm.
The Hollies, one of the most successful British bands to emerge in the Sixties, will headline the show on Saturday with an hour-long set from 6.30pm.
Meanwhile, Barking schoolgirl Molly Rainford will have a 20-minute slot at around 5.30pm on Sunday and award-winning singer Lemar will perform popular hits as well as his latest single, Invincible, from 7pm.
The town show, which is being staged for the last time this year, will go out with a bang with its usual mix of stalls, rides, and stunts including Monster Trucks.
