The event, also featuring dance and singing workshops as well as Asian food, will take place in the grounds of the history museum in Becontree Avenue, Dagenham, from 7pm to 11pm.

The 2004 film, a Bollywood adaptation of the Jane Austen classic Pride and Prejudice, was a box office and critical success.

Honey’s Dance Academy in east London praised the film, which featured some 12 of its dancers in the cast.

Company director Honey Kalaria, 36, said: “The film was wonderful. Aishwarya Rai, the lead actress in the film, was amazing.

“It was the first time we saw her in an East-West movie. It works really well. It was a great attempt to bring Bollywood to Western audiences.”

The feature follows the story of Lalita – Elizabeth in the Jane Austen novel – as she meets a wealthy American, Will Darcy, in the Indian city of Amritsar in the Punjab.

R&B Grammy winner Ashanti makes a cameo appearance in the movie, which was filmed primarily in English with some Hindi and Punjabi dialogue.

Barking and Dagenham Council, which is organising the screening, said that people could bring their family, learn some new moves during Bollywood workshops and enjoy food.

Entry is £1 in advance or £3 on the day. To book call 020 8227 2482 or email neesha.badhan@lbbd.gov.uk
