Health view: Use the correct services this Christmas
PUBLISHED: 08:00 15 December 2018
Did you know one in five people think the NHS struggles during winter because people use the wrong services?
This is what local residents told us in a recent survey by the East London Health and Care Partnership which asked hundreds of people about the pressures the NHS is under this winter, and where they go to get urgent healthcare.
This winter, we want to ensure you know the right service to use, and in Barking and Dagenham, there are many services to help you get the right care, at the right time, first time, so you don’t need to go to A&E.
If you need urgent, same-day advice or help but you can’t see your GP, please call NHS 111 for free, 24/7.
The new and improved NHS 111 service in north east London, has GPs, nurses, paramedics, and pharmacists giving urgent advice over the phone – so you can get the advice you need or a same-day appointment closer to home without having to wait for hours in A&E.
Using the improved NHS 111 service can help relieve pressure on GP and A&E services this winter, so those who genuinely need it can receive treatment as quickly as possible.
Appointments will be available at local GP access hubs at locations including Broad Street medical centre in Dagenham and Barking Community Hospital.
Additionally there is a walk in and wait urgent care service at Barking Community Hospital.
